Andrew Orange brings to Webb Martin Consulting Pty Ltd over twenty years of commercial legal experience.

He has practised in commercial and property law, working in both the private and government sectors. While pursuing his own post-graduate studies, he lectured in tax and company law at the University of Queensland. With the advent of GST, he returned to the private sector to pursue his pre-existing interest in that area of tax - joining a boutique GST consultancy and subsequently Webb Martin Consulting Pty Ltd, where he is one of the principals.

In the course of private practice, Andrew has worked with both large and small CBD-based legal firms and a commensurate wide range of clients. He is familiar with the requirements and constraints of large and small enterprise advising and combines this with practical experience of the needs of in-house government sector advisers.

Andrew’s areas of focus include:

  • Taxation Ruling Applications
  • Taxation Objections
  • Taxation Review - AAT Proceedings
  • Working in conjunction with law firms on Taxation Appeals
  • Working in conjunction with law firms in formulating tax-related clauses for inclusion in commercial documents
  • Complex taxation matters - requiring consideration of commercial documents (eg Trust deeds, contracts etc) and /or detailed analysis of taxation laws
  • Administrative issues - eg remission of penalties, GIC etc
  • GST
  • Taxation of non-profit bodies
  • State Taxes:
    • Stamp duty
    • Land Tax
    • Payroll tax

In addition to his own client work, WMC colleagues will bring Andrew on board in the course of their work, in matters which they envisage will benefit from a diverse approach to problem solving.

WMC personnel also regularly seek Andrew’s input to assist them in understanding the legal context underlying taxpayers’ circumstances. This allows WMC to better assist clients in providing taxation advice that is relevant and finely directed.

Andrew is a Fellow of the Taxation Institute of Australia. He holds the following Academic Qualifications from the University of Queesnland:

  • Master of Laws
  • Bachelor of Laws (Hons)
  • Bachelor of Commerce
  • Bachelor of Arts

Andrew assists WMC to find solutions for clients by drawing on the strengths of both accounting and non-accounting skill-sets and perspectives. He seeks to drill down through facts in order to identify the real problem and, where appropriate (recognising cost and time constraints), to develop lateral approaches to achieving resolution of the problem.

Looking beyond the office - Andrew enjoys a game of golf. Sadly for his golfing aspirations, a “largish” handicap at golf bears witness to another big “handicap” of commitment to, and enjoyment of, his work!
